THE WAVE OF FUN and excitement that broke this summer at The Cove is moving on to Perris Valley.
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors has approved a new water park for construction in the Romoland area. The Cove, a similar facility in the Jurupa area west of Riverside, opened earlier this summer and is thriving as a destination for families and young people.
The Perris Valley Aquatic Facility will be built on Trumble and Vista Roads and is scheduled to open in summer, 2013.
The Riverside County Redevelopment Agency will fund the project, and the county Economic Development Agency will develop it. The Riverside County Park and Open Space District will operate the facility.
Much like The Cove, the Perris Valley Aquatic Facility will feature many of the attractions that can be found at private, for-profit water parks, only at a much lower cost.
Plans call for a children's water playground area, three water slides with a recreational pool, a "lazy flow river," a wave rider for surfers and body-boarders, a competition pool and an 11,000-square-foot administration and operations building.
The Perris Valley Aquatic Facility also will include food concessions and picnic areas with permanent shade structures as well as other amenities needed for a relaxing and cooling experience. Hours are expected to be 10am–5pm from May through September.
All told, about 12 acres of land will be developed at the Perris Valley facility. In addition to eliminating blight, the project is expeced to spur economic development in the community of Romoland, as well as the cities of Perris and Menifee.
