MENTAL ILLNESS CAN IMPACT ANYONE, regardless of age, background, employment, education and income level.

TREATMENT WORKS, frequently allowing people to maintain their quality of life and their involvement with their families and communities.

ONE IN FOUR ADULTS—approximately 57.7 million Americans—experiences a mental health disorder in a given year, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.

ABOUT 10 PERCENT OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS in the United States suffer from serious emotional and mental disorders that cause significant functional impairment and half of all Americans experience a mental disorder at some time in their lives, according to the United States Surgeon General.

NEARLY 140,000 PEOPLE OF ALL AGES in Riverside County may be impacted by serious mental illness.

THE RIVERSIDE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, on May 3, 2011, issued a proclamation declaring that "May is Mental Health Month in Riverside County" and called for the expanded awareness of mental health issues and the promotion of wellness and recovery for those with mental health needs.

MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA has promoted the observance of "May is Mental Health Month" since 1949.
