"Path to Success Tour" Gives Local Students "A Taste of College Life"

EIGHTH AND NINTH-GRADERS from several school districts will get an early taste of college life in a tour organized by the 1st District Youth Advisory Council.

The Path to Success tour on May 22 will highlight the benefits of higher education and advise students how to begin preparing.

The free event is open to public-school students in the 1st district and will show them around UC Riverside and Riverside Community College. Participants will visit a residence hall and eat lunch at a school dining hall. They will meet with college administrators and get tips from a panel of college-bound high school seniors.

More than 135 students have taken part in the annual tour since the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) members first organized it in 2006. The Youth Advisory Councils are made up of volunteer high school students who act as advisors to the Board of Supervisors and who work to improve the lives of young people throughout the county.

This year’s event runs from 7am to 3:30pm Saturday, May 22. Breakfast, lunch, prizes and transportation will be provided. In order to promote public transportation, participants will be riding the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) buses.

Space is limited and RSVP is required. Please contact Aviana Cerezo or Elena Hermenegildo at 951.955.1010 to RSVP or for more information.
